Greenwood, Mississippi - Greenwood Leflore Hospital is proud to announce that Amber Overstreet, Charge Nurse in ICCU at the hospital, was awarded Nurse Champion during the third annual Spero Awards.
The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) host an annual award ceremony to honor those who are committed to saving and healing lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. This years ceremony was hosted on July 21 at the old Capitol Inn in downtown Jackson.
“Amber is a perfect example of a nurse who whole heartedly believes and supports the mission of donation,” said one nomination, which was read at the ceremony. “In the six years since she became a nurse, she has shown compassion to donor families, determination to ensure donor quality is preserved, and offered her time to help educate other nurses regarding donation processes.”
A total of 15 Spero Awards were presented to individuals and organizations from areas throughout the state as well as one special recognition award. The ceremony recognized hospital partners, medical professionals, corporate partners and donor ambassadors who work tirelessly in conjunction with MORA to promote organ, eye and tissue donation.
“Her dedication to MORA’s mission was one of the primary reasons that after 20 years, her hospital successfully completed an organ donor case,” the nomination said. “The outcome from that case allowed 7 recipients to receive a life-saving organ transplant and countless others received the life-enhancing gift of tissue/eye donation.”
Through her achievements and dedication, Overstreet was chosen as a worthy recipient of the 2016 Nurse Champion Award.
