Greenwood, Mississippi - Greenwood Leflore Hospital will be providing free prostate screenings on September 12 through September 14 for members of the community.
The screenings, which take place during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, will be offered to men between the ages of 50 to 70 who are not being evaluated by their primary care physician on a regular basis.
Prostate cancer is nearly 100 percent survivable if detected early, but there are often no early warning signs or symptoms. The only way to detect the disease is a simple screening.
African Americans, Hispanics and men with a family history of prostate cancer are considered high risk and should be regularly screened starting at age 40.
Screenings are by appointment only and will take place on the 2nd floor of Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
Screenings will be Monday, September 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, September 13 from 9:00 a.m. to noon and Wednesday, September 14 from 9 a.m. to noon.
