CANNON MOTORS CELEBRATES 60 YEARS

In 1956, the average cost of a car was $2,050, gas was selling at 23 cents a gallon and Michael Joe Cannon’s father opened his first used car lot in Calhoun City.

Over the past 60 years, that modest car lot in a town with a population of less than 2,000 has turned into a 14-dealership enterprise, spanning from Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Blytheville, Arkansas.

“My father always taught me to treat people the way you would want to be treated,” said Michael Joe Cannon. “I think that’s a big part of what has made this operation so successful: the service during the time of sale and our continued service after the fact. The culture at Cannon is something very special.”

After his father’s death in 1986, Michael Joe Cannon took over the small used car lot and grew the business on customer service and trust from employees and customers alike.

The sixtieth year brings a ton of new chapters for Cannon Motors, including the addition of a new Nissan dealership in Oxford and the beginning of new site locations and facilities for Cannon Ford Lincoln in Cleveland and Cannon Honda and Toyota in Vicksburg.

During this sixth decade, Cannon also made one of the biggest moves in the company’s history by moving outside of its home state, Mississippi, and into Arkansas.

“It’s been a really big year for us, and we have our customers to thank for that,” said Cannon. “We are using this anniversary as an opportunity to give back to the people who have supported us and allowed us to continue growing.”

In order to celebrate the 60 years of business, all 14 dealerships will be hosting special sales for the months of November and December.

More details on the 60th anniversary celebration and specials will be released closer to November.
