What started as a small business operated out of Will and Beth’s apartment located in Washington D.C. in 2009 has grown into what we know as Hunt today. (Learn more about Hunt’s journey in our founders’ story.)
We can think of no better way to celebrate our 15th year in business than to share our good fortune with others!
This year, we’ve selected 15 charities to donate $1,000 each towards their mission, resulting in $15,000 total in gifts overall! Now, enough about us. Let’s talk about this month’s organization, North Mississippi Exchange Family Center!
About North Mississippi Exchange Family Center
The rich history of this organization begins all the way back in 1979 when the prevention of child abuse became the mission of the National Exchange Club. Several leaders from area Exchange Clubs came together to form the Oxford Prevention Center in 1997. Ever since, the organization has made it their mission to not only increase awareness of child abuse but to also prevent this terrible occurrence.
North Mississippi Exchange Family Center offers a variety of programs for those in need such as Raising Mothers to Rise, STAN, and Give Care. Denise Strub, executive director of the foundation, emphasizes that the most valuable program offered through the institution is the scholarly-reviewed Exchange Parent Aide home visitation model.
“[Using the Exchange Parent Aide home visitation model], child abuse prevention experts work directly with at-risk families to create impactful change,” said Strub.
In addition to these programs, the center hosts the Oxford Diaper Bank, sponsors a Cub Scout pack and offers presentations and workshops on Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.
STAN, Stop Abuse Now, is a mascot for the charity who visits elementary and preschool children to teach them how to talk to adults if they or a friend is experiencing abuse and what it can look like. STAN is proudly sponsored by Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of Mississippi.
Raising Mothers to Rise is designed to educate and guide teen parents and pregnant teens through weekly classes offered at the Family Center in Oxford. Participants are given refreshments and items for their child.
With the funds provided by Hunt, North Mississippi Exchange Family Center plans to continue growing the great programs mentioned above. We are honored to support such a wonderful organization, and encourage you to learn more by visiting their website.
